STRABANE……….1-2 | DRUMRAGH……….3-17

Drumragh maintained their 100 per cent start to the year away to Strabane on Sunday evening.

Midfielder Aine McManus got the scoreboard moving with a point after good play from Caoimhe McCarron, Shannon Starrs and Coblaith McKenna. Dana Coyle kicked a couple of early scores while Beth Donaghy was also on target from a free after Caoimhe had been fouled.

The Drumragh defence started the game in a determined fashion as well with the full-back line of Edel Meenagh, Joanne Barrett and Mia Gallagher impressing in the early stages. Goalkeeper Nicola Taggart also dealt calmly with a couple of high balls into the square.

Drumragh created a number of chances with Julieanne Quinn, Aoibhinn Gallagher and Clare McGread driving forward at every chance from the half-back line. They were unfortunate not to have more scores, hitting the woodwork twice, while the Strabane goalkeeper also made a wonderful save.

Strabane scored a goal to leave it a one-point game, but Drumragh responded well. Grace O’Neill hit an excellent point, Beth Donaghy converted a couple of frees, while Neamh Cleary won the ball back and promptly sent over a fantastic point. Strabane had the final say of the half from a placed ball.

The first two scores of the half were shared – Sorcha McKenna responsible for Drumragh’s point – but Drumragh really started to control the game from then on, with all substitutes introduced helping in that regard.

Neamh Cleary converted a difficult free after she had fouled, before Sorcha McKenna scored a further 1-2 in a very short space of time, putting Drumragh in the driving seat.

Beth Donaghy converted two frees and quickly added a goal, while Caoimhe McCarron also scored following good play from Neamh Cleary, Emma-Cait Gallagher and Aine McManus.

Drumragh were very strong defensively in the second half with Joanne Barrett, Josie Hughes and Caitlin McCarron performing well.

Neamh Cleary and Beth Donaghy added quality scores from play and Caoimhe McCarron then set up Rhianna Barrett for Drumragh’s third goal, completing another impressive victory for Drumragh.
