Drumragh senior ladies impress in league win

POMEROY……….0-2 | DRUMRAGH……….4-15

Drumragh senior ladies impressed in a win away to Pomeroy on Thursday evening.

First-half goals from Neamh Cleary and Caoimhe McCarron (2) laid the foundation for the win which sees Drumragh progress to a league quarter-final meeting with Aghaloo on Sunday.

Neamh Cleary opened the scoring and Drumragh quickly doubled their lead when Fionnghuala O’Neill set up Caoimhe McCarron. Sorcha McKenna converted a free, and then assisted Joanne Barrett for a score as Drumragh continued their confident start to the game.

A further point came from Neamh Cleary before goal number one arrived. The move involved Edel Meenagh, Julieanne Quinn and Coblaith McKenna all carrying the ball upfield, and eventually to Caoimhe who finished well. They didn’t have to wait long for the second goal with Neamh Cleary the scorer.

The home side got on the scoreboard, but Drumragh continued to push forward. Evie Gallagher was on target, Beth Donaghy converted a free after a foul on Caoimhe McCarron, while Caoimhe kicked a point from play from Fionnghuala O’Neill’s pass.

Drumragh were performing just as well in the defensive sides of things too. Goalkeeper Rihanna Mullin confidently came off her line numerous times to clear dangerous balls into the full-forward line, while Caitlin McCarron, Joanne Barrett and Mia Gallagher all had brilliant games.

Caoimhe McCarron got in for her second goal of the game to leave Drumragh with a good lead at the break.

Neamh Cleary opened the scoring in the second half, while Caoimhe McCarron was also on target, reacting quickest to a rebound after Beth Donaghy’s shot was well saved by the Pomeroy goalkeeper. Beth scored a goal while a great run and pass from Grace O’Neill allowed Shannon Starrs to send the ball over the bar.

Pomeroy sent over a point, but there was no let-up from Drumragh. An excellent pass from Sorcha McKenna found Caoimhe McCarron in space and she duly added a point. Beth Donaghy scored twice in quick succession following good work from Joanne Barrett, Emma-Cait Gallagher and Lara Kelly, with midfielder Coblaith McKenna completing the scoring. A fantastic performance and win for Drumragh.
