DRUMRAGH……….1-12 | ROCK……….1-13

An injury-time goal was the crucial score as visitors Rock beat Drumragh senior men by a point at Clanabogan on Wednesday evening. It was a tough outcome for Drumragh who put in a strong second-half display to claim the lead going into the final stages of the game.

The early scores were shared with Daniel O’Neill and Eoin Montgomery responsible for Drumragh’s points. Rock then went on to hit six points in-a-row over a 15-minutes period. However, nice scores from play by Sean McGale and Malachy McManus meant Drumragh trailed by just four points at half-time.

Drumragh got off to a dream start thanks to a Daniel O’Neill goal. Andy Colgan did brilliantly to win the ball back and start the move. Ben Monk and Gareth Haughey were involved, as was James Broderick, and his cross-goal pass was finished soccer-style to the back of the net by Daniel.

Rock responded with a couple of points but Eoin Montgomery was on target with a great score, and Eoin then turned provider for Alex McGlinchey who sent the ball between the posts. Daniel O’Neill then gathered Gareth Haughey’s long ball in and fired over.

The Drumragh defence really tightened up in the second half with  Eamonn Kerrigan and Barry Fitzgerald performing strongly down the middle. And with Sean O’Doherty, Sean McGale and Oran Devlin getting forward, Drumragh were creating plenty of chances.

Kian Murphy scored a point in between two scores for Rock. And then three points on-the-bounce for Drumragh – scored by Ronan Maguire, Kian and Alex McGlinchey – left Drumragh two points ahead entering injury time. But then Rock struck for their goal. Drumragh went up the field and after Benny Drumm was fouled, Eoin Montgomery brought the teams level once again.

Rock had one last attack, though. And they were awarded a free, which was converted, giving them the win.
