Drumragh U16 boys beat Owen Roes following a tight battle at Clanabogan Park last Wednesday evening. Drumragh led for most of the game, but withstood a late comeback from the visitors to claim the points.
The home side enjoyed a four-point lead at the break. James Fyffe and Dara Cox were both on target twice during the opening 30 minutes, while Ryan Baxter and Matt Gallagher also sent the ball over the bar in the first half.
It was a disciplined defensive showing with Matthew Barrett, Aaron Duncan, and Joseph Taggart all playing well. Midfielders Shea Mullin and Connor McLaughlin, meanwhile, got on plenty of possession throughout the first half, setting up various Drumragh attacks.
Drumragh had a good start to the second half and created a number of opportunities. Oisin Walsh came up from centre-back to open the scoring after the break with a point after Ryan Baxter, Ben McCullagh and Shea Mullin set him up.
Owen Roes responded with a point, but strong runs upfield from Niall Burt and Niall Gormley allowed Dara Cox to send over another score for Drumragh. And from the kick-out that followed Dara turned the ball over, allowing him to run in and kick a goal.
The away side hit back, however, scoring 1-3 unanswered, leaving it a two-point game. They had other chances too. But Drumragh goalkeeper Matthew O’Doherty dealt confidently with a number of high balls into the area, while defenders James Gallagher, Sean O’Donnell and Matthew Barrett managed to win the ball back at vital moments.
And all that allowed Drumragh to go up the field and tag on another score, via an excellent point from Matt Gallagher, sealing a great win, with each player, and every sub, playing their part.
