Drumragh U16 boys beat Killeeshil in the championship quarter-final at Clanabogan Park on Saturday morning.
Drumragh raced into a three-point lead in the early stages with Matt Gallagher kicking a free, adding another from play, while Ryan Baxter also on target. Killeeshil came back well, however, and were soon level.
Ryan Baxter put Drumragh back in front with a good score after brothers James and Conor Fyffe had created the chance. An Oisin Walsh turnover led to Joseph Taggart sending the ball over the bar while good play from Niall Burt, Shea Mullin and Niall Gormley allowed Connor McLaughlin to score a point.
Killeeshil had their moments, and hit a good score, while Drumragh goalkeeper Matthew O’Doherty denied the away side a goal with a terrific save. Further scores from Matt Gallagher and James Fyffe meant Drumragh enjoyed a four-point lead at half-time.
Killeeshil opened the scoring in the second half and they had a period of possession. But Matthew Barrett, Tiernan O’Donnell and Shea Mullin defended superbly to protect Drumragh’s lead.
And midway through the half they key score of the game arrived. Oisin Walsh took the ball through the visitors’ defence, past a couple of defenders and drilled the ball to the bottom of the net for a great individual goal. Dara Cox set up James Fyffe for a score before Ryan completed the scoring with an excellent point off the outside of his right foot.
