Our Reserve’s will take on Errigal Ciaran III’s in the Reserve Championship Final this coming Saturday. The game will be played as part of a double header in Killyclogher with throw in at 2.00pm. Our Reserve Team have gone unbeaten this season with a perfect record in both League and Championship. This rich vein of form has been aided by a squad which demonstrates a great mix of youth and experience. As we approach the Final, we’re taking a look back at our 1989 & 2002 Championship Final which saw Drumragh claim the title against Urney and Brocagh respectively.

Pride of place last weekend went to the Drumragh Sarsfields GAC Reserve Team who defeated Brocagh to clinch the Reserve Championship at Carrickmore. A great team effort was exemplified by the performance of young rookie goalkeeper Chrissy O’Doherty who saved a penalty. In his victory speech captain Damian Mullan praised manager Mickey Gallagher, assistants Cathal and Jimmy, the panel and the opposition. Speaking after the match Mickey Gallagher urged those considering retirement to rethink, although Enda Mullan vowed to continue for another ten years. The Reserves continued winning ways on Sunday, although the Seniors lost to Glenelly.

Prior to 2002 Drumragh had last lifted the Championship title in 1989. That Reserve Team, fuelled by a particularly strong Minor Team, picked up the Championship Title after beating Urney with a score of 1-8 to 0-5 in a replay. Last Saturday evening at Drumquin, Drumragh Sarsfields collected the Fr. Eamon Devlin Cup when they overcame old rivals Urney on the score 1-8 to 0-5. This was the second meeting between the sides after the first game ended in a draw. There was some doubt about the score in the first game but Saturday’s game saw Drumragh dominate for most of the hour and they ran out easy winners. The game was played in a very sporting manner and the standard of football displayed was a tribute to both teams. With Drumragh on top at midfield through the efforts of Dessie Mullan and Darren Barlow their forwards got good supply of the ball and hit over some good scores. Drumragh had other outstanding performances from Martin McCaffery, Shane O’Neill, John McGread, Benny Cox, Conor Gallagher and Cathal McLaughlin. Urney had in Duffy, McCrory, McMenamin and Doyley players who gave a good account of themselves. Referee Alan Richardson controlled the game in a very impartial manner throughout. After the game the Chairman of the ACL Tony McKenna presented the Cup to the Drumragh captain, Charlie Mitchell.
