Drumragh…………………0-10
Cappagh…………………….2-9

Two goals in injury time at the end of the game denied Drumragh ladies a win in their opening league fixture against Cappagh at Clanabogan on Friday night.

It was a tough outcome for a Drumragh side who had led for much of the game.

The teams went score for score early on with Kathryn Donaghey, Breanna Breslin and Beth Donaghy all on target with good points from play for Drumragh.

The home side were defending well with Maria Harkin, Coblaith McKenna and Joanne Barrett making some important interceptions early on. Drumragh also created a few goal chances at the other end of the pitch. The crossbar denied Neamh Woods a goal, with half-forward Grace O’Neill forcing the Cappagh keeper into a fine save.

Drumragh hit three points in a five-minute spell through Beth (2) and Clodagh Loughran to move three points ahead, a lead that their play had deserved. However, Cappagh came back with two points in first-half injury time, leaving it a one-point game at half-time.

Beth Donaghy scored four points for Drumragh on Friday evening

Cappagh hit the first couple of scores in the second half to go back in front, only for Beth to bring the sides level again from a free after Grace was fouled by a defender.

Both sides missed chances as they looked to take a hold of the game although defences were getting on top as the second half progressed. The Drumragh defence included Emma Lynch, who made a welcome return to the football field as a substitute following a long time out through injury.

A point each from Neamh and her midfield partner Laura Harkin had Drumragh in a strong position heading into injury time. But those two goals in quick succession meant Cappagh left with the two points, despite another point from Neamh.

Scorers: Beth Donaghy 0-4, Neamh Woods 0-2, Kathryn Donaghey 0-1, Breanna Breslin 0-1, Clodagh Loughran 0-1, Laura Harkin 0-1
