Drumragh………………..2-8
Fintona………………….2-10

Drumragh senior ladies lost out to Fintona in the league on Saturday despite a strong comeback following a slow start to the game.

Drumragh trailed 2-4 to no score after the first quarter of an hour but from then on they played well and brought themselves back into the game. Coblaith McKenna got their opening score with a good point before Beth Donaghy found the back of the net. It was a brilliant top-corner finish from Beth who had been found by a Grace O’Neill pass.

Fintona got back up the field for a point but Drumragh soon had their second goal from Clodagh Loughran following good play from Emma Harkin and Kathryn Donaghey. A quick free from Neamh Woods found Sorcha McKenna in a bit of space and she was able to put the ball over the bar.

Drumragh were now back in contention but it took a wonderful penalty save from Drumragh goalkeeper Eva McCaul to keep Fintona’s lead at four points at half-time. That was just one of a number of brilliant saves Eva made during the game.

Fintona got the first score of the second half but Drumragh replied with a good point from Grace O’Neill who had been set up by Sorcha McKenna.

The game was end-to-end at this stage. Clodagh Loughran pointed for Drumragh following good play from Neamh Woods, Fintona converted a free and then Clodagh forced the Fintona goalkeeper into a good save.

Emma Harkin was at the end of a good team move involving Neamh Woods and Clodagh Loughran as Drumragh moved to within three points.

Fintona though had a good spell increasing their lead out to five points with Eva McCaul denying them their third goal with another save.

Drumragh refused to give in, however, and finished the game strong. First Beth Donaghy scored a point following a fantastic catch on the edge of the square from Kathryn Donaghy and then Clodagh Loughran kicked two points in quick succession leaving it a two-point game.

While Drumragh were pushing for a leveller, or even a winner, Fintona remained dangerous on the break, and it took a brilliant block from Breanna Breslin on the goal line to stop them from scoring a goal.

But Drumragh couldn’t get the goal they needed and despite a good performance from the home side, it was Fintona who held on for the win.
