Drumragh U17 boys beat Naomh Eoghan/Urney at Clanabogan on Thursday.
A strong first half performance meant Drumragh enjoyed a commanding lead at the break.
It was Naomh Eoghan/Urney who actually opened the scoring and it took a good block from full-back Oran Devlin to stop them from getting a goal in the opening stages.
Kian Murphy kicked a nice score for Drumragh after he was set up by Ethan Maguire and Niall Maguire. He then gave Drumragh the lead for the first time after intercepting a kickout and putting the ball over the bar.
Naomh Eoghan/Urney pointed from distance in response but that was to be their last score of the half.
Blaine Feeney benefited from good link-up play from Ben Monk and Kian Murphy to score before Kian caught a long ball in from Cormac McCann, powered past his marker and fired over.
Niall McCarney turned the ball over around midfield, delivered a good pass into Kian Murphy who was able to get another point as Drumragh began to play with real confidence.
Corner backs Sean O’Kane and Carraig McKenna kept out a few Naomh Eoghan/Urney attacks, and one such turnover led to an excellent long-range point from Niall McCarney.
A great team move – started by Blaine Feeney – involving Cormac McCann, Conor Barrett, and Cormac Dolan ended with Ethan Maguire kicking a good point.
The Naomh Eoghan/Urney goalkeeper made good save from Niall McCarney but Drumragh did not have to wait long for a goal. Kian Murphy caught a long ball in, he then gave a quick hand pass to Niall Maguire who then placed the ball in the bottom corner of the net.
Niall Maguire set Niall McCarney for the final score of the half but Drumragh had to keep their concentration at the back and Brendan Quinn, Oran Devlin and Blaine Feeney all did well to protect the lead.
A strong run and finish from Ben Monk gave Drumragh a good start to the second half and Eoin Coyle then won a kickout, played a ball into Niall Maguire who found the target.
Naomh Eoghan/Urney came back strong though with a goal and a point but Niall McCarney answered back for Drumragh with another long-distance score.
The teams swapped points with Niall Maguire and Cormac Dolan getting on the scoreboard for Drumragh.
The momentum then swung towards Naomh Eoghan/Urney. They kicked a couple of points and then got in for their second goal despite Ryan McCrystal making a good save.
Cormac Dolan scored an important point for Drumragh after Fionn Collins and Aaron Lynch combined to set him up as the game travelled towards a tight finish.
Naomh Eoghan/Urney had three points before the end with Kian Murphy answering back for Drumragh with a free.
The away side had a number of attacks in their search for an equaliser but Drumragh held firm defensively for a great win.
