Drumragh minor ladies before the start of the game away to Pomeroy on Tuesday

Drumragh minor ladies were beaten by Pomeroy away in the league on Tuesday evening.

A tight first half saw Drumragh lead by a point at the break. Pomeroy opened the scoring with a goal and quickly followed that up with a long-range free.

Iona Mills answered back for Drumragh with a nice point after good play from Genevieve Norris had created the chance. Drumragh were level not long after with a brilliant goal from Rihanna Barrett. Amy-Lee Burt’s shot came off the post and Rihanna, first time along the ground, fired the ball to the back of the net.

Strong defending from Lily O’Kane and Cora Walsh allowed Drumragh to move the ball up forward and they took their first lead of the game when Jemma Barrett set up Caoimhe McCarron for the go ahead score. Pomeroy equalised and would have went in front only for two excellent point-blank saves from Drumragh goalkeeper Aine MacRory.

Cara Kerlin and Evie Gallagher combined to set Rihanna Barrett up for a good point, only for Pomeroy to go up the field and get a goal. However, the Drumragh response was impressive with Genevieve Norris drilling the ball past the goalkeeper.

The home side made a quick start to the second half with a goal to retake the lead. Drumragh had their chances and were unlucky not to benefit from the good play of Aoibhinn Gallagher and Iona Mills.

Pomeroy took control of the game with a scoring burst while a strong run from Grace McCusker allowed Rihanna Barrett to send the ball over the bar for Drumragh.

Drumragh kept going, helped by the introduction of subs Fianna McNamee, Fionnuala Clarke and Una Pancott, and were unfortunate not to add more scores to their total. However, Pomeroy scored a late goal and tagged on a number of points to claim the two points.
