A fantastic team performance saw Drumragh U16 boys emerge winners over Pomeroy in an exciting league game at Clanabogan on Tuesday evening.

This was a great game of football with good play, scores and performances coming from both sides.

Having withstood a couple of early Pomeroy attacks, thanks to the efforts of Matthew O’Donnell and Oran Devlin in the home defence, Drumragh opened the scoring with a goal from Ben Monk. Pomeroy responded with a free but a brilliant point from play from Kian Murphy and a good goal from Aaron Lynch put Drumragh six points ahead.

The away side came back strong though and were soon level and then went ahead for the first time in the game with a point from their midfielder.

Kian Murphy brought the sides level with a mark and the teams then went score-for-score for the rest of the half, Kian, Aaron Lynch and Niall Maguire on target for Drumragh.

Drumragh got off to a terrific start in the second half scoring 1-4 without reply. Kian Murphy (3) and Niall Maguire were the pointscorers, while the three-pointer came from Niall McCarney, a super finish after a great team move, involving Blaine Feeney and Ryan Montgomery.

Pomeroy pulled a goal back but Drumragh soon restored their seven-point lead with a goal of their own through Kian Murphy. He soon added another goal after a nice pass inside from Niall McCarney.

Pomeroy refused to give in and a run of 1-3 brought them back into the game. They had other chances as well and it took good turnovers in defence from Carraig McKenna, Sean O’Kane and Cormac McCann to protect Drumragh’s lead.

A free from Kian Murphy settled Drumragh nerves and a goal in injury time from Eoin Coyle, following good work from Cahir McAnenly and Aaron Lynch, made sure of the win and a fantastic start to the league for Drumragh.
