Shane Devine scored Drumragh’s goal against Fintona on Friday

Fintona……………………0-10
Drumragh………………..1-15

Drumragh seniors picked up their first points of the year with an eight-point win over Fintona on Friday evening.

This was a deserved victory for Drumragh who played well and who looked likely winners for much of the game.

They got off to a terrific start and were 1-3 to no score up after 10 minutes.

Eamonn McCann set Drumragh on their way with a long-range free that bounced over the bar after Paddy Colgan had been fouled. A foul on Barry Fitzgerald allowed Shane Cleary to double Drumragh’s lead and Shane then added a good point from play after Shane Devine knocked a long ball inside into his path.

Drumragh then got in for their goal. Ronan Maguire’s pass found Shane Cleary and his initial shot was saved well by the Fintona goalkeeper but Shane Devine was there to tap in the rebound.

A Fintona free put them on the scoreboard before Drumragh had the ball in the net again. However, it was judged Ronan Maguire didn’t get a touch on the ball before it crossed the line from Shane Cleary’s hand pass and therefore the goal was disallowed.

Fintona took control of the game over the next ten minutes and were soon level with five points on the bounce.

It took a couple of vital interceptions from Eoin McGread and Micheal Mullin in the full-back line for Fintona not to make more of their period of dominance.

Tommy Mullin forced the Fintona goalkeeper into a good save as Drumragh looked to get back into the game. But Shane Cleary converted the resulting 45 and Drumragh went back into the lead.

They finished the half strongly and further points from Shane Cleary, Tommy Mullin and Malachy McManus put Drumragh into a good position at half-time.

A couple of good points from play by Malachy McManus and Aaron Montgomery saw Drumragh make a strong start to the second half and extend their lead out to six points.

Drumragh were in control during the second half and anytime Fintona scored a point, Drumragh were able to go up the other end of the pitch and respond with one of their own.

Aaron Montgomery kicked an excellent point with the outside of his left foot from a tight angle, before Shane Cleary scored a couple of frees following fouls on Ronan Maguire and Eamonn McCann. He then added a good score from play following a team move involving Aaron, Tommy Mullin, Cormac Norris and Paddy Colgan.

Drumragh were defending well with Michael Mullin, Lee Brown and Mark Carroll breaking up a number of Fintona attacks as they went looking for a goal.

Shane Cleary concluded the game’s scoring with a free following another foul on Ronan Maguire.
