Drumragh U14 boys ahead of their game against Loughmacrory on Saturday

Drumragh………………..1-9
Loughmacrory………..2-10

Drumragh U14 boys lost out to Loughmacrory following an exciting contest between two evenly-matched sides on Saturday.

Two early goals from Loughmacrory was the difference in the end but Drumragh battled right through to the final whistle, playing some good football along the way, and the outcome was in doubt up until then.

Loughmacrory opened the scoring with their first goal but a good turnover from Fionn Collins gave Conor Barrett the opportunity to point for Drumragh not long after.

Drumragh midfielder Turlough Collins kicked a nice score but Loughmacrory went on to build an eight-point lead helped by their second goal. A good save from Drumragh goalkeeper Sean O’Doherty, and strong defending from Ryan Baxter, Oisin Kerlin and Rory Dolan, stopped them from leading by more.

But back came Drumragh. Oran Barrett and Conor Barrett set Niall Maguire up for a good point, Ryan Montgomery took a good score from play and he then kicked over a free after good pressure from Fionn Collins, Aidan McCarney and Ryan Montgomery in the Drumragh forward line forced the Loughmacrory goalkeeper into overcarrying.

The second half started with another couple of good saves from Sean O’Doherty but Loughmacrory did extend their lead with a point. Drumragh though answered that with a goal from Niall Maguire who finished well past the goalkeeper following an exchange of passes between himself and Conor Barrett.

The teams went score-for-score for a while, Niall Maguire hit a couple of frees and centre back Carraig McKenna scored a brilliant individual score. There was some good defensive play on both sides with Conor Gormley, Lorcan McGrath and Ronan Bresnahan doing well in the home defence.

The Loughmacrory goalkeeper then made a couple of good saves as Drumragh looked for a goal that would have put them in the lead. First he tipped Conor Barrett’s shot over the bar and he then denied Turlough Collins who had done well to create a goal chance for himself.

Loughmacrory were then awarded a penalty but yet again Sean O’Doherty made another fantastic save. The away side did kick a point in injury time though and that gave them a four-point win following an entertaining game.
