Great win for Drumragh U16 boys over Beragh

Drumragh U16 boys were in good form against Beragh in the league on Thursday

Drumragh……………….2-17
Beragh……………………1-11

A strong second-half display powered Drumragh U16 boys to an impressive win over Beragh at Clanabogan on Thursday evening.

Drumragh played well throughout and this was a deserved win for them.

A tight first half saw Beragh led by two points at the break. They had opened the scoring with a point but Ben Monk brought the sides level from a free after Ethan Maguire had been fouled.

Beragh hit three points in-a-row to go ahead but back came Drumragh. Aaron Lynch pointed following a good inside pass from Ben Monk, Cormac Dolan fed Aaron for another score and then Sean O’Kane set Cormac up for the equaliser.

Beragh though got through for their goal and added a point to establish a four-point lead. Oran Devlin and Matthew O’Donnell were prominent as Drumragh were making a good defensive effort.

A good team move involving Ethan Maguire and Eoin Coyle allowed Blaine Feeney to score while a foul on Aaron Lynch gave Niall McCarney the chance to kick over a free before half-time, which he did.

Drumragh goalkeeper Ryan McCrystal made an important save during the second half of Thursday’s game

Drumragh got off to an excellent start to the second half and a run of five points saw them go into a three-point lead.

Ben Monk pointed following good play from Oisin Kerlin and a great point from play by Aaron Lynch made it a level game.

Niall McCarney then put the home side ahead for the first time with a point from long-range and he soon extended that lead with a free after a foul on Blaine Feeney.

It took a wonderful save from Drumragh goalkeeper Ryan McCrystal to protect that lead. But from that save, Drumragh moved the ball quickly up the field via Cahir McAnenly, Matthew O’Donnell, Niall McCarney and Ben Monk to Cormac Dolan who kicked the ball over the bar.

That felt like a key moment and Drumragh pushed on from then right through to the final whistle. Drumragh were attacking in numbers with defenders Brendan Quinn, Carraig McKenna and Oisin Kerlin getting forward to good effect.

Niall Maguire finished well past the Beragh goalkeeper for Drumragh’s first goal. Niall McCarney then scored a good point as did Aaron Lynch who was set up by a smart pass from Niall Maguire. That move began with a turnover in the Drumragh defence by Ryan Montgomery.

A point a piece from Niall McCarney and Niall Maguire stretched out Drumragh’s lead and then Aaron Lynch concluded the scoring with a goal having been set up by good work from Conor Barrett and Ben Monk. A nine-point win for Drumragh, one that was very much deserved.
