Killyman………………….0-12

Drumragh seniors recorded their second successive league win with an eight-point victory over Killyman at Clanabogan Park on Friday.

They were made to work for it by a determined Killyman side who had edged the first half.

Both sides had chances early on that neither were able to take advantage of, and the game was delayed after only a few minutes because of an injury to Ciaran Donaghey.

But it was Drumragh who did eventually get the game’s first score. Cormac Norris made a strong run through the centre of the Killyman defence, his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper but the rebound came out to Shane Devine who pointed from a tight angle.

Killyman went in front with a couple of nice scores from play but Malachy McManus brought the sides level after good work from Shane Cleary and Eamon Rea.

The away team quickly went into a two-point lead as they came more into the game. They were defending well too meaning Drumragh were not making the most of their chances.

Shane Devine forced the Killyman goalkeeper into another good save but a foul on Gareth Haughey allowed Shane Cleary to close the gap with a free not long after.

The teams swapped points – Shane Cleary on target again for Drumragh – but three scores on the bounce put Killyman into a strong position, a lead they were good value for. But Drumragh finished the half well. Shane Devine was set up by Eamon Rea for a point and then Shane Cleary converted a 45 after Eamon was denied a goal by the goalkeeper. That all meant Killyman enjoyed a 0-8 to 0-6 lead at half-time.

Aaron Montgomery was the scorer of Drumragh’s second goal against Killyman

Drumragh responded well to this and were much improved after the break. It was Killyman though who opened the scoring in the second half with a free. However, Drumragh were soon on level terms. Shane Devine caught a long ball inside and was fouled by a combination of a couple of Killyman defenders. Shane Cleary took the resulting penalty and made no mistake.

Killyman went back ahead but Shane Cleary answered that with a good point from play and then Shane Devine put Drumragh in front with his third score of the game.

Drumragh had tightened up defensively while Aaron Montgomery and Cormac Norris were giving Drumragh a good platform around midfield. This allowed them to score 1-4 without reply, a run vital to the game’s outcome.

Ronan Maguire set Barry Fitzgerald up for a point, Shane Devine got an excellent score from play, Shane Cleary kicked a free after Ronan was fouled and then Aaron Montgomery made sure of the win with a goal after a good pass from Shane Cleary, who added a point before the end.
