Brackaville………………..0-11
Drumragh………………….3-15

Three goals in the first half powered Drumragh seniors to an impressive win over Brackaville in the league on Saturday.

Drumragh led for most of the game and a couple of early plays set the tone for what was to come. Micheal Mullin got out in front of his marker to stop the first Brackaville attack and less than 15 seconds later the ball was over the bar at the other end of the field. Aaron Montgomery delivered a good ball into Shane Cleary who beat his man before kicking the point.

Brackaville equalised with a nice long-range point from play and they shortly after took the lead with a 45.

Both sides created goal chances, Shane Devine forcing the home goalkeeper into a good save while James Colgan did the same for Drumragh.

A brilliant individual point from Aaron Montgomery then put Drumragh back on level terms before they were then awarded a penalty. Gareth Haughey won the ball back in the defence, passed the ball to Cormac Norris who, after a good run, found Shane Cleary in space and he was fouled as he looked to go past the keeper. Shane took the penalty himself and made no mistake.

Drumragh kept the pressure on and extended the lead with Shane Cleary converting both a free and a 45 and Ronan Maguire adding a point from play. Drumragh were defending well, making things difficult for the Brackaville attack with Eoin McGread, Gareth Haughey and Eamonn Kerrigan coming up with a number of vital turnovers.

Drumragh then really took control of the game with Cormac Norris finishing well past the goalkeeper after Malachy McManus’s initial shot had been saved by the goalkeeper.

Brackaville responded with a point but then Shane Cleary got a good goal with his left foot after a team move involving Eamonn McCann, Shane Devine and Paddy Colgan.

Three points in-a-row for Brackaville saw them cut the lead to eight at half-time.

Drumragh goalkeeper James Colgan made a number of important saves during Saturday’s game

Brackaville made a quick start to the second half as well with a couple of early scores. But Drumragh settled and Shane Cleary kicked a free after a foul on Barry Fitzgerald before Barry scored an excellent point from play.

The sides exchanged points with Shane Cleary on target for Drumragh with a couple of free kicks. James Colgan also made another big save to stop Brackaville getting back into the game.

Drumragh continued to attack with real purpose and kicked some wonderful scores from play before the end of the game.

Eamon Rea scored and he then set Eamonn McCann for a point. Shane Cleary put the ball over the bar again and he then teed Lee Brown up for one, Aaron Montgomery got a good score with the outside of his right foot and Barry Fitzgerald pointed from distance. Brackaville ended the scoring a free.

This was a very good performance and represented a third win in-a-row for Drumragh who are building a good bit of momentum with the championship fast approaching.
