Narrow defeat for Drumragh U14 girls

Drumragh U14 girls had a great game of football against Badoney on Friday ngiht

An entertaining game of football saw Drumragh U14 girls narrowly beaten by Badoney in the league at Clanabogan on Friday.

Drumragh played really well throughout the hour and can count themselves a tad unlucky not to take something from the game.

Badoney got the game’s first point but Rihanna Mullin responded for Drumragh with a difficult free after a foul on midfielder Dana Coyle.

The away side went in front again with the game’s first goal but it didn’t take Drumragh long to get back level. Sadhbh Duncan kicked a great score, Genevieve Norris pointed from a tight angle after Grace McCusker had forced a turnover, and a foul on Sadhbh allowed Rihanna Mullin to equalise from a placed ball.

Drumragh then went in front with a Genevieve Norris goal, who finished well following a good team move involving Olivia Kelly, Eva McGale and Fionnuala Barrett.

A foul on Lily O’Kane gave Rihanna Mullin the chance to extend the lead with a free, which she did.

Badoney were looking dangerous on the attack too, Drumragh goalkeeper Tammy Donnell made a good save and the full-back line of Cara Kerlin, Fionnuala Clarke and Cora Walsh were all playing very well.

Fionnuala Barrett dispossessed a Badoney defender and played in Sadhbh Duncan who forced the Badoney goalkeeper into a save. Drurmagh did get something from that attack, however, with Rihanna Mullin stylishly pointing the resulting 45 with the outside of her right foot.

Coblaith Murphy did well to get in for a goal chance that was saved, but a goal from Dana Coyle meant Drumragh had the lead at half-time.

Badoney made a strong start to the second half and it wasn’t long until they were level. Tammy Donnell made another great save while Fianna McGuigan and Genevieve Norris prevented them from getting further scores.

However, a goal gave Badoney back the lead and they soon added a few more points to stretch out their lead.

The response from Drumragh was good though. Dana Coyle scored her second goal of the game having caught a long-ball in from Genevieve Norris before Lily O’Kane finished past the goalkeeper having been set up by Eireann Boyle.

Badoney scored their third goal before the end, enough to secure them a four-point victory. But it was an excellent performance from Drumragh who played some great football during the game.
