Drumragh U15 boys beat Both Domhnaigh last Saturday

Drumragh U15 boys picked up their first win of the season after a great game against Both Domhnaigh in Gortin on Saturday.

Drumragh got off to a super start with Fionn Collins finding the back of the net in the first minute after determined play from Conor Barrett in the full-forward line. Niall Maguire added a couple of quality points before Fionn Collins got through for his second goal. Oisin Kerlin caught a great ball at midfield, good support play and pass from Conor Gormley played in Fionn and he finished well past the goalkeeper.

Niall Maguire added a free after he was fouled before Both Domhnaigh replied with a free of their own. They then added a further three points as they fought their way back into the game. A block from Carraig McKenna prevented them from getting in for a goal too.

Lorcan McGrath did well to stop a Both Domhnaigh attack and from that, the ball ended up in the hands of Conor Barrett who confidently scored Drumragh’s third goal. It was a fantastic end-to-end team move with Niall Maguire, Turlough Collins and Aidan McCarney all involved.

Both Domhnaigh were still looking dangerous going forward and it took last-ditch defending from Ronan Bresnahan, Oran Barrett and Oisin McManus to stop them from scoring a couple of goals. They did kick a point during this period but when a strong run from Oisin Kerlin was stopped illegally, Niall Maguire put the difficult free over the bar in response.

Fionn Collins and Kristian Devine set Niall Maguire up for a good score just before half-time and so Drumragh held a deserved lead at the break.

It was Both Domhnaigh who made the better start to the second half and it wasn’t long until they made it a one-point game.

Drumragh needed a score and they got it through Conor Barrett. Fionn Collins did well to catch the ball around midfield, he drove towards goal, laid the ball off to Conor who stylishly finished the ball to the bottom corner of the net.

Both Domhnaigh almost got in for an immediate response but goalkeeper Sean O’Doherty pulled off a brilliant save to deny them.

Oisin Kerlin then went on to extend Drumragh’s lead with a point after good play from Frankie Monk and Dylan Lowry. The game was end-to-end at this stage. Sean O’Doherty dealt with a couple of high balls into the penalty area and Lorcan McGrath, Conor Gormley and Ronan Bresnahan each made important interceptions.

Niall Maguire scored a free after he was fouled while Dara Cox set up Fionn Collins for a point. Both Domhnaigh quickly scored a goal and a point in quick succession leaving it a two-point lead entering injury time. But Fionn Collins made sure of the win, completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot after James Fyffe was fouled.

A great win for Drumragh after an entertaining game.
