Shane Cleary scores Drumragh’s second goal against Errigal Ciaran

Errigal Ciaran…………1-7
Drumragh……………..3-11

Drumragh seniors beat Errigal Ciaran in the league last Saturday to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Ronan Maguire put Drumragh on their way with a goal in the first minute after a good exchange of passes in the full-forward line between Shane Cleary and Shane Devine created the opportunity.

Errigal Ciaran answered that, however, with a goal of their own a minute later as the game got off to a quick start.

Benny Drumm and Eamonn McCann set Aaron Montgomery up for a go-ahead score before full-back Sean McGale stretched the lead. Having won the ball from a kick-out at midfield, Sean exchanged a couple of one-twos with Ronan Maguire and Gareth McGrath before kicking over a great point with his left foot.

Errigal Ciaran converted a free but Benny Drumm replied for Drumragh with a point from distance.

Drumragh then took control of the game with their second goal. It started with a Barry Fitzgerald turnover in the defence, Paddy Colgan and Eamonn McCann carried the ball forward and Shane Cleary did well to win Ronan Maguire’s pass in ahead of his marker, he then rounded the goalkeeper and scored.

Shane Devine caught a pass in from Eamonn McCann, turned inside his man and pointed while Shane Cleary got a good score off his left foot meaning Drumragh enjoyed a seven-point lead at half-time.

Errigal Ciaran dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second half, and four points on the bounce made it a one-score game. A couple of important interceptions from the full-back line of Eoin McGread, Sean McGale and Eamonn Kerrigan protected Drumragh’s lead as the home side piled on the pressure.

But Drumragh reacted well and a strong finish to the game secured the win.

A good kickout from Charlie Colton found Aaron Montgomery in a bit of space who moved it on to Shane Cleary, and Shane scored a free after he was fouled. Ronan Maguire then got his second goal of the game after Tommy Mullin’s pass set him up.

Substitutes Tommy Murphy and Andy Colgan both kicked two points from play each and Shane Cleary added another free before the end.

Errigal Ciaran needed a goal but Benny Drumm and Gareth Haughey cut out a few attacks and Drumragh held on for a good win.
