Goals from Shane Cleary and Benny Drumm powered Drumragh senior men to an impressive win over Glenelly at Clanabogan Park on Friday.

Drumragh led from the moment Kevin Marron converted a mark in the opening minute. Tommy Murphy and Shane Cleary quickly added quality points from play in what was a confident start to the game for the home side.

Glenelly got on the scoreboard but there was let up from Drumragh and they extended their lead through Shane Cleary, Tommy Murphy and a Kevin Marron free.

Drumragh were soon awarded a penalty, Shane Cleary did well to gather Tommy Murphy’s ball in and he was then fouled. Shane took the penalty himself and made no mistake to push Drumragh further ahead. In the next attack, Shane caught Benny Drumm’s long ball in and converted the mark. He then added a lovely point from play after good play from Sean McGale.

Ronan Maguire put the ball over the bar for another point but Glenelly finished the half really well and five points on the bounce meant they only trailed by four at half-time.

But Drumragh took back the momentum at the start of the second half. Barry Fitzgerald and Eamonn McCann both pointed before Benny Drumm scored an excellent goal, in a move that was started all the way back in the full-back line with an Eoin McGread turnover.

Drumragh looked like scoring every time they attacked and Eamonn McCann got a point from distance before Shane Cleary got in for another goal, an excellent finish to the top corner of the net.

The home side were defending really well too, not giving the Glenelly attack any time or space. Once the ball was won back, the counter was started immediately, moving forward at pace.

A couple of those counter-attacks ended in points for subs Andy Colgan and Eoin Montgomery while Kevin Marron was on target again to complete an excellent win.
