Drumragh senior ladies played Cappagh in the league on Saturday evening

CAPPAGH……….5-9
DRUMRAGH……0-6

Drumragh senior ladies lost out away to Cappagh in the league on Saturday evening.

It was a battling performance from Drumragh who made the home side earn every score they got.

Cappagh netted a couple of times in the early stages and added a number of points. Breanna Breslin got Drumragh up-and-running with a free after Mia Gallagher had been fouled, having done well to win a long-ball in. Drumragh were unfortunate not to profit from other opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.

Cappagh stretched out their lead with some well-worked points and almost had another goal only to be denied by first, a good save from Drumragh goalkeeper Aine MacRory, and then brilliant last-ditch defending from Rachel Cleary on the goal-line.

Caoimhe McCarron added to Drumragh’s total with a lovely point from play with the outside of her right foot having claimed a rebound from Emma-Cait Gallagher’s shot. Julieanne Quinn then took a brilliant score before the half-time whistle after good build up play from Coblaith McKenna and Aoibhinn Gallagher.

Both sides had chances at the start of the second half but the Drumragh full-back line of Iona Mills, Nicola Taggart and Blanaid McGarvey did well to snuff out a number of goal chances. Caoimhe McCarron converted a difficult free from out on the right after Neamh Cleary had been fouled for Drumragh’s first score of the second half.

Cappagh scored two goals in quick succession midway through the half but that was to be their final scores of the game as Rachel Cleary, Nicola Taggart and Evie Gallagher continued to impress in the Drumragh defence.

The strong running of Grace O’Neill, Neamh Cleary and Sorcha McKenna were creating chances at the other end of the field, one of which was excellently taken by Breanna Breslin. Breanna then kicked the final score of the game from a placed ball after pressure from Julieanne Quinn, Cassie McCabe and Coblaith McKenna had forced the turnover in the Cappagh defence.
