Drumragh U16 girls beat Galbally in the league on Sunday

Drumragh U16 girls made it six wins on the bounce with a fantastic victory away to Galbally on Sunday morning.

This was yet another terrific display from Drumragh who weathered an early Galbally storm to come out on top. The home side got in for a couple of goals in the openin with the Drumragh response in this time coming from Caoimhe McCarron, who found the back of the net after Rihanna Mullin and Dana Coyle had combined to create the chance.

The teams swapped points, with Caoimhe McCarron on target for Drumragh with an excellent effort. Having won the ball near the corner, Caoimhe cut inside and fired over an excellent score. Caoimhe kicked another point soon after having been set up by Emma McCloskey and Drumragh then went in front for the first time through a Dana Coyle goal.

It was a lead that they would never lose and they built up a good lead as the half progressed. Dana Coyle scored a goal again after good play from Genevieve Norris and Grace McCusker, Amy-Lee Burt and Rihanna Mullin combined to set up Caoimhe McCarron for a goal, while Rihanna Mullin added an excellent point from play, in a move started with strong play from Drumragh goalkeeper Nora McCloskey.

Galbally had their chances but impressive defending from Lily O’Kane, Fionnuala Clarke and Fianna McGuigan kept them out.

Rihanna Mullin, Caoimhe McCarron and Emma McCloskey all scored goals with Mairead Corrigan, Amy-Lee Burt and Cara Kerlin involved in most of Drumragh’s good moves.

Galbally scored two goals of their own but Rihanna Barrett matched that while a further three-pointer from Caoimhe McCarron left Drumragh in a strong position at the break.

Rihanna Mullin got things going in the second half with a goal after good play from Jemma Barrett, Fionnuala Barrett and Mia Feeney. Cara McManus and Emma McCloskey set up Caoimhe McCarron for a point, to which Galbally answered back with a point and a goal.

But the Drumragh response was quick. Grace McCusker, Aimee McGaughey and Oonagh Pancott stopped a couple of dangerous Galbally attacks and from there, the ball was moved upfield to Emma McCloskey, and her clever pass inside was gathered by Rihanna Barrett who made no mistake with the finish for a goal. The roles were soon reversed with Rihanna setting up Emma for a goal.

Galbally tagged on a few points before Jemma Barrett found the back of the net for Drumragh after she had done well to win the ball back in the full-forward line.

Galbally looked to add a few more scores but were shut out by Fionnuala Barrett, Cora Walsh and Genevieve Norris as Drumragh completed another impressive victory.
